Weave Youth Family Community (Formerly known as South Sydney Youth Services) are proud to present the 2011 SYDNEY MAD PRIDE YOUTH EVENT on 1st July at Weave Art Centre, 231 Wilson St EVELEIGH.

Now in it’s forth year, the event offers the public an opportunity for insight into the personal stories of young people experiencing mental health issues while celebrating their resilience and creative achievements.

The SYDNEY MAD PRIDE YOUTH EVENT program is built from contributions made by individuals and organisations across NSW who present outcomes from their creative projects, coordinated by the Mad Pride Youth Management Committee who determine the content for the event.

The 2011 SYDNEY MAD PRIDE YOUTH EVENT program will feature the finals of the Mad Pride Talent Quest; where young people will perform original spoken word, dance, drama and music to compete for $500 cash and prizes.

The night will also feature a dedicated cinema space where films made by young people that address this years theme will be screened.

The organisers hope that by reducing this stigma of mental health then more young people will seek help when they need it.

The program will also include a forum where young people who access mental health services can discuss their issues supported by an information expo from key agencies in the youth mental health sector in NSW.

SYDNEY MAD PRIDE YOUTH EVENT is a community development initiative that has been inspired by the international movement of Mad Pride. The event exists to celebrate the creative potential of young people who access mental health services in NSW and to breakdown the stigmas associated with dual diagnosis.
